Akshay Kumar is set for a comeback on the big screen with his Bell Bottom and it’s only days away from release. Nothing could be said about the film, from a box office perspective, as it is coming out in testing. Nonetheless, the advance booking report is incredible so far.
For those who don’t know, BB is released on August 19th. The film will enjoy a national holiday on the occasion of Muharram. It could be for the same reason, Akshay’s spy thriller gets a big response when booking in advance of opening day. And if he clicks on the right deals on day one, the film will have the opportunity to win big.
We have an example of Thalapathy Vijay Master which was released in January, after the first wave of COVID. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film went through 100 crore and that too with the occupancy restrictions in theaters. Akshay Kumar has a good chance of winning more as he enjoys a decent outing, especially in the north.
Much like we’ve seen in Hollywood, Bell Bottom is expected to be released in phases depending on the reopening of theaters in different Indian states. It could eventually help the film make its way into coveted box office clubs, with 100 crore being the least expected.
If Akshay Kumar manages to mark a century with his Bell Bottom, he will move 100 points closer to Salman Khan in Koimoi’s Star Power Index (also known as Star Ranking).
To date, Akshay Kumar is 2nd with 1700 points – 1100 points from 11 films in 100 crore club, 600 points from 3 films in a 200 crore club. Salman Khan reigns supreme with 2,500 points. He has 9 movies in 100 crore club (900 points), 3 films in a 200 crore club (600 points), 3 movies in 300 crore club (900 points) and 2 films among the 10 best foreign producers (100 points, 50 points for each film).
