Why The American Song Contest’s Snoop Dogg ‘Hates Rehearsals’ But Loves His Job

American song contest is the latest singing reality competition series to take television by storm, starring Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson. With two music icons front and center each week showcasing the best singers from all fifty US states and territories, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement. In fact, Snoop Dogg himself often gets caught up in performances, from what Clarkson has had to say, and he’s now explained why he hates rehearsals before live shows but loves his job.

Snoop Dogg danced and sang with artists throughout the first season, even admitted that K-pop is a “guilty pleasure” and showed special support for another singer after her emotional performance. He spoke with CinemaBlend and other outlets about American song contestand when I asked him if he watched rehearsals like Kelly Clarkson or if he preferred to watch live during the show for the first time, he explained:

I hate repetitions. [laughs] I love watching them live. ‘Cause when it’s live, I feel like you feel, you know what I mean? It’s not false. It’s not television, it’s actually me. So when I dance, dance, have a good time, really into it, because it’s the first time I hear it and that’s how it makes me move and how it makes me feel, you did great job because you have me dancing to your song that no one in the world knows but you and your people.

Viewers can’t always see how well Snoop dances and dances, as the camera is on the performers as they do their best to represent their state or territory, but Kelly Clarkson guarantees how well he accompanies the music. He certainly always has good things to say about the artists who particularly move him.

It’s not the first time he’s worked on a music competition show – or even with Kelly Clarkson on a music competition show – thanks to his stint as Mega Mentor in season 20 of The voicebut American song contest is the first of its kind with this format in the United States as a legendary version of Europe Eurovision.

The co-host also made it clear that he loves his job, as he shared what he looks for in artists with true star power:

One of the things I look for is the work ethic, the way they work. The songs, the concepts, the lyrics, the music selection, the showmanship, the way they deal with being in front of people, the way they deal with the ins and outs of knowing it may not work, you know. So just the reality side. Loving what they do more than loving the results that will come of it. That’s what I’m mainly looking for. Someone who loves doing what he does. Because I love my job. I don’t do this for the money or the fame, I do it because I love doing it. That’s why you see me doing so many different things. Because if I like doing it in this opportunity, I will continue doing what I like.

Snoop Dogg’s love for his work is reflected in his enthusiasm as a co-host alongside Kelly Clarkson, and it’s no wonder singers like Jocelyn and AleXa have specifically said his comments and praise in particular meant a lot to them. He’s an icon in the music business who pursues projects because he loves them, so why not love Snoop Dogg as host on CSA? (If you’ve missed any episodes so far, you can catch up with a Peacock subscription.)

You can find Snoop Dogg in action alongside Kelly Clarkson – whose comments also meant a lot to artists, including Grant Knoche while representing his home state of Texas – with new episodes of American song contest Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The competition is tough, with artists ranging from big names like Michael Bolton and Macy Gray to others who might get their big break with CSAso be sure to keep logging in.
