We are now eight years away from Kevin Smithit is Defense, one of the craziest horror movies to hit theaters in the last ten years. Smith took a big swing with his second horror film, turning Justin Long in a human-walrus hybrid and going to weird places even the most bizarre horror movies rarely go. Almost a decade later, is Defense 2 come alive ?!
Kevin Smith teased Defense 2 over the years, but this latest tease just Defense star Justin Long. According to Long, Smith is developing a Defense sequel movie!
“You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin [Smith] just announce– I mean, I guess they talk about it. They do ‘Tusk 2’ I think“, Long tells Slash Movie this week.
Long continues, “He texted us the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was serious. And then one of [other] investigators said, ‘Yes, he told me the same thing.’ »
Again, not the first time Defense 2 came into the conversation. It was in August 2020 that Smith originally teased a follow-up movie while chatting with fans on Twitch.
Smith said at the time: “I’m shocked we got away with Tusk one but I’ll be honest with you I have a story for Tusk 2. The great Michael Parks, who played Howard Howe, the guy who turns Wallace into a walrus, sadly passed away a few years ago. Incredible actor with whom I had the opportunity to work twice. But, at the end of Tusk, if I had wanted to be a commercial filmmaker, which apparently I never wanted to be, I would have finished the movie when Guy La Pointe walks in and raises his shotgun and you just hear Morse [scream] and we cut to black.”
He continued, “There’s a version of Tusk 2 you do where… you cut to the present tense, and someone else gets sucked into the spider’s web. Home you hear stories, and when you get home the new Howard Howe is Wallace, who got rid of walrus traps and stuff and is obviously bothered by all his ordeal and now does it to the others. So there’s a way to do Tusk 2 where Justin becomes the Michael Parks character. Wallace becomes, in a way, the new Howard Howe. So yes, it is possible. Defense 2 is possible.”
