Tom Allen is writing a sequel to his best-selling autobiography, which British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
The comedian posted no shame in 2020 about growing up in the suburbs of the 1990s, coming to terms with your sexuality and feeling like an outsider.
His latest memoir, which is currently scheduled for publication on November 10, is titled Too much. “It’s been really interesting writing,” Allen revealed on Like spirit friendsthe podcast he hosts with fellow comedian Suzi Ruffell.
“Even if it’s quite difficult to write when the last one I did was during confinement” he admitted. “It’s not lockdown now, there are a lot more distractions.”
Again edited by Hachette imprint Hodder Studio, Too much see the old Bake Off: The Professionals the host ponders becoming a reluctant adult, after finally leaving home in his thirties, finding a boyfriend, and dealing with the grief of losing his beloved father.
Allen promises to elaborate on his reluctance to move on from the stunted development of millennial life, his tumultuous travels in Japan and introducing new friends from his time in America.
Hodder Studio has published several comedian books since its inception in 2020, including memoirs by Harry Hill, Rachel Parris, Phil Wang and Ellie Taylor, a prayer book by Frank Skinner and script collections and a companion book for Inside. No.9.
Allen is one of the actors appearing in Backstage With Katherine Ryan, the stand-up showcase that also films comics discussing in their dressing rooms, which airs on Amazon Prime on June 9. And he recently hosted Dave’s dreamy desert island talk show, The Island.
Tom Allen – No Shame
“When I was 16, I dressed up in Victorian clothes in an effort to distract people from the fact that I was gay. It was a flawed plan.”
no shame is a very funny, candid and emotional ride from a memoir by one of our most beloved comedians. The working-class son of a bus driver and the youngest member of the Noel Coward Society, Tom Allen grew up in the suburbs of the 90s as an eternal underdog.
In these hilarious, honest, and heartbreaking stories, Tom recalls observations about his childhood, teenage years, the family he still lives with, and his attempts to come out and negotiate the gay dating scene. They are written with his characteristic caustic wit and warmth, and will entertain, surprise and move you in equal measure.
