The love story of dash & lily came to an abrupt end as Netflix confirmed that the romantic comedy will not be returning for a second season.
From novels for young adults Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares directed by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, the series follows the whirlwind romance between teenage Dash (Austin Abrams) and Lily (Midori Francis). During the Christmas holidays in New York City, the young couple develop feelings as they open up to each other, exchanging messages and challenges in a notebook around multiple locations.
The 8-episode first season premiered on Netflix on November 10, 2020 and ended with Dash and Lily sharing their first kiss at midnight on New Years Eve at the famous Strand Bookstore. Sadly, this turned out to be the couple’s last kiss, unless another network or streamer decides to pick up the series.
Alongside Abrams and Francis, the series also starred Dante Brown as Dash’s best friend, Boomer, and Troy Iwata as Lily’s older brother, Langston. The season finale also featured an appearance from the Jonas Brothers, who performed their holiday song, âLike It’s Christmasâ – Nick Jonas also has a small speaking role in the episode.
Joe Tracz (A series of unfortunate events) was the showrunner of the series, as well as the writer and executive producer. Last year, Tracz said TV line that he “would love to be able to go back and do the second and third books” in the series.
âThe third book was written on the set. David and Rachel would visit the set and work on their chapters for the third book, âhe continued. “I love these characters and the city they live in so much. Knowing that there are more stories to tell, these are stories I would love to tell.”
