We may know actors for this iconic role. Sometimes, however, these talented individuals take on other endeavors that are the opposite of what they are generally known for. On Reddit, fans decided to appreciate the iconic serious and dramatic roles played by actors best known for their comedy.

Reddit user u/EzraMusic98 shared on r/Reddit that he enjoyed Bill Murray in lost in translation. They described her role in the film as “perfect” and added that her chemistry with Scarlett Johansson was sizzling. OP also mentioned that he almost forgot Murray was a comedian after watching the movie and asked about other drama movies featuring comedy actors.

It turns out that a lot of comedy actors did serious roles and were really good at it. A majority of fans recommended OP watch Jim Carrey’s work in Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and The Truman Show, just to name a few. A fan pointed out that The Truman Show was still using his strengths as a comedian, but he managed to be taken seriously by fans and was not seen as another funny movie.

Despite what you think of Adam Sandler, fans agreed that his serious roles are worth watching. Some of them agreed that Sandler in drama films is “the most unexpected thing” but he excels at it. Some movies they recommended were Uncut Gems, rule over meand Click on.

Another comedic actor worth mentioning is Ben Stiller. Before directing and being praised for his work on the Apple TV series, Breakup, he acted in a few films such as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. But fans appreciated him more for his work as a director than for the movies, especially since he started taking on serious projects.

While well-known comedians have made us laugh over the years, the mood immediately changes when you see them take on serious roles. It just proves that we don’t need to trap actors in a box just because they’re known for a particular thing. Let them branch out and show us how far their talent can go.
