Revenge is a dish that is served cold and elegant. The latest Netflix movie, revenge, wants you to know. Hitchcock’s black comedy makes high school the ultimate breeding ground for deception and the perfect place to get revenge on traitors.
Camille Mendes (Riverdale, Palm Springs) and Maya Hawke (stranger things, street of fear) play preppy perfectionist Drea and awkward transfer student Eleanor, respectively. After they both fall victim to the machinations of two classmates, Drea has a topless video leaked by her boyfriend and Eleanor is accused of holding down a classmate and attempting to kiss her, the couple teams up to take down the other’s bully.
The film is inspired by the 1951 film by famous filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock Strangers on a train. The film revolves around two strangers who meet on a train and are faced with the proposition of committing each other’s murders. Throw that movie in a jar in equal parts my lovely ladya pinch of coming-of-age elements, a pinch of queerness, and you have Revenge.
Joining Mendes and Hawke are Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), Sophie Turner (game of thrones), Alisha Boe (13 reasons why) and Ava Capri (Love, Victor) to complete what appears to be a colourful, chaotic and campy film. There’s an influx of young adult-focused content hitting TV screens and we’re really excited to see more queer stories being a part of it.
And it seems like people can’t wait for this movie to come out either.
Revenge premieres on netflix on September 16, 2022. Check out the trailer below.
