At least most of those movies have a cult following now.
Some films immediately find their audience. But for various reasons, others fail to connect with viewers during their first theatrical show. This can be due to bad timing, an ineffective marketing campaign, or a number of other unpredictable factors. Whatever the reason, some films do not initially reach a large audience. So with that in mind, we take a look back at eight horror movies that shouldn’t have bombed the box office but did.
Mill (Planet terror and Proof of death)
This double bill is a romantic return to the era of exploitation which failed to recover production costs during a large theatrical exhibition. Produced for an estimated budget of $ 53 million, the films only grossed just over $ 25 million nationally. Both features are solid and lovingly carry over the magic of the drive-through days of yesteryear. Based on the quality of both films and the reputations of the respective directors, this well-meaning comeback should have been a resounding success.
