Looking back on successful horror franchises, Scream will always stand out from the crowd of slashers. Whether fans love the humor, the characters, Ghostface, or the twists that unfold at every turn of the story, fans will always return to these movies when they want to spend time in the familiar world of Sidney again.
From an iconic scene from the 1996 film to a few highlights from several sequels, Scream fans took to Reddit to discuss why they love this popular horror franchise so much.
ten The first scene from the original film
Scream has great opening scenes, and when you wonder why the original 1996 movie is so good, Editor Rechan mentioned, “The Stellar Overture” with Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker.
Horror fans love seeing Casey making popcorn in his kitchen, getting ready to watch a horror movie, and answering a phone call from Ghostface. As Casey realizes she might not make it through the evening, she watches her boyfriend die and his death scene is one of the most chilling in the entire franchise. Watching his mother scream after seeing Casey’s body is also effective and memorable.
9 Scream has a good mystery
GreyStag Redditor wrote that movies with “a mystery ‘whodunnit’ “hadn’t been released in a while when Scream was released in 1996 and the film presented this type of story in a “cool way that appealed to a new generation”.
As Sidney hangs out with her best friend Tatum and keeps getting calls from Ghostface, and Principal Himbry is killed in his office at school, the audience tries to figure out who the killer is and what his potential motive might be.
8 Ghostface behavior is unique
Scream fans love seeing Ghostface in every movie, and while this villain’s look stands out, fans also love how each Ghostface acts.
Redditor TyrianMollusk likes that “Ghostface is restless, vibrant, and ridiculous, like it’s desperate to get to you instead of some inevitable doom.” Some of the scariest moments in the horror franchise are also some of the most hilarious, as Ghostface will sometimes trip and fall while trying to kill someone.
7 The film influenced others in the genre
Fans love it Scream is a meta-horror franchise, and Redditor Orpheus7 likes that the film had such a big influence on the genre, writing that audiences can “now see where every self-aware horror movie draws its inspiration from.”
When you watch other movies that follow, Ready or Not for The cabin in the woodsit is possible to see Screambecause these stories are clever, creative and keep the audience guessing. These movies are also popular because they retain a sense of humor throughout.
6 Scream 2 is a scary sequel
Fans also appreciate the second film in the franchise, which usually isn’t the case since sequels sometimes lose a lot of the excitement of the first film.
Editor JNTA1234 says that Cry 2 is “the scariest Scream movie” and there’s “intensity” all the time. It’s really scary that another Ghostface is murdering people and even though Sidney is gone to college, she’s not as safe and clear as she assumed.
5 The Ghostface mask is iconic
Redditor kazefuuten said “The mask!” is a big reason why Scream is so beloved all these decades later, and it’s true that Ghostface’s costume is special.
The mask is recognizable and has become part of the franchise’s brand identity, and there’s something wacky and interesting about it, as the eyes and mouth sag. Ghostface is absolutely horrifying and no one wants to come into contact with them, but the mask also contributes to the campy and fun tone of the movies.
4 Amber is a great ghost face
Redditor Awesomejuggler20 said, “Amber is my favorite killer in the franchise now,” and Amber is definitely one of the smartest characters in Scream (2022).
For much of the film, Amber is a funny, witty, and confident teenager who seems to have it all together. Amber surprises audiences with her plan to become famous and create a new viral story, and she’s a great character with some memorable quotes. Nor will anyone be able to forget seeing it catch fire during the final confrontation.
3 Scream 3 has good acting
Cry 3 has a fun movie-within-a-movie plot with stab 3 being filmed, and several actors play Gale, Sidney, and the other characters that Ghostface pursues in the first film.
Redditor Fragrant-Tough-9500 praised this film and wrote, “The original trio are fantastic, Parker Posey and Scott Foley are fantastic.” Although new franchise characters aren’t always as witty or well-drawn as the originals, Jennifer Jolie does a hilarious job playing Gale in the Stab movies, and director Roman who turns out to be Ghostface is a big surprise.
2 Scream (2022) has amazing new characters
There are many fan favorites Scream (2022) characters, and for Redditor WhoIsTheZODIAC, “The new cast was awesome.”
The fact that the latest film introduces a new cast of young characters who live in Woodsboro and are just as witty and funny as the others that came before them is definitely something fans appreciate. It’s especially poignant to meet the Meeks-Martin twins Mindy and Chad who are related to Randy, as they have such an important place in franchise history.
1 Scream (2022) makes good use of Gale, Sidney and Dewey
before watching Scream (2022)fans were curious how the original characters would fit into the script, since there are so many new ones.
Chief Editor FKChris wrote, “The original trio is woven into the story in a surprisingly emotional way.” It’s hard not to feel emotional seeing Gale and Dewey awkwardly chatting after their split, and Sidney is there for Sam, who is dealing with the same issues Sidney has.
