10 Best Horror Movies Of 2022, According To Rotten Tomatoes


It’s not very often that a the director will recommend his favorite movies, but Scott Derrickson did just that. The director of the hit horror film The black phone gave fans of the horror genre its top five picks to watch during the Halloween season and beyond.


Halloween 2022 may have recently passed, but that doesn’t mean the horror festival has to end. This year has seen a lot of good horror movies, and Rotten Tomatoes has some great recommendations to add to Derrickson’s list.

Bullying affects millions of people around the world every day, and sadly, there are many times when the act goes unpunished. The film porcine not only depicts violent bullying, but shows the bullies receiving brutal punishment.

While the film received an audience score of 67%, many critics praised the film for its intriguing story which tackles themes of bullying and self-esteem. The actors also received positive feedback, with critics saying their performances were well done considering the film’s difficult script and how dark the film was in places.

pearl is the origin story of West’s intriguing film villain X, and it’s just as gory and disturbing as the first film. Most viewers would find common ground with the critics, with their score currently at 80%. Critics and fans alike praise actress Mia Goth for her role as Pearl, the film’s eerie atmosphere, and its bold art direction.

B-movies are a treasure trove for fans of the genre. Although the concept of “B movies” is more often associated with older films, there are many gems of B movies being made today, including the directorial debut of Joseph Winter, Deadstream.

Deadstream tackles something that happens to many internet personalities: a public controversy that leads to the demonetization of the person and a massive drop in subscriber numbers. The film combines this real-world horror with the supernatural in a found-picture film set in a haunted house. Critics praised the found footage film for being entertaining with a fun-to-watch protagonist. Many fans would agree with the sentiment, with the film earning an audience score of 81%.

7/10 Night Werewolf – 91%

The MCU has a lot of entertaining content to provide its viewers, including some scary content. Among the many MCU Movies and TV Shows That Will Give Chills This is the recent special night werewolf.

The special wowed both critics and fans alike, as the black-and-white film gives off the old classic horror movie vibes that many people still enjoy. Many were surprised by the different direction the MCU is taking here. Viewers and critics were more than thrilled with the results, scoring 91% in both Rotten Tomatoes categories.

6/10 Hatching – 92%

There is a lot of weird but great horror movies like Hatching there for fans to enjoy. Considering the story of a girl finding a human-sized bird that ruins her life, Hatching is one of many quirky horror movies worth watching.

The film gives a bloody, brutal look at a family that isn’t as perfect as it likes to pretend, and a human-bird hybrid that won’t hesitate to tear anyone to pieces. In this case, most critics enjoyed this more than the general public, as the audience score is 61%. However, it still received praise for its screenplay, which provides an intriguing metaphor and gruesome monsters.

Bill Skarsgård has starred in many big movies, such as 2017’s Horror Giant THIS. This year, he worked alongside THIS producer Roy Lee, starring in the intriguing and disturbing film, Barbaric.

Revolving around witchcraft in the 19th century, You won’t be alone is not just an intriguing movie with an engaging plot, but a disturbing story that deserves to be hailed as one of the best horror movies of 2022.

The film revolves around a young girl who is kidnapped and turned into a witch by an ancient spirit. The film’s content is dark and touches on themes such as identity and destiny. Its highly original storyline leads to a satisfying ending. Although the film has yet to receive a ratings score, it’s still got plenty of good reviews, with critics praising it for bringing a fresh take on tired horror tropes.

3/10 Prey – 93%

Predator is among many horror films to receive both prequels and sequels. While some entries in the series have bombarded both fans and critics alike, there have been a few gems that have received praise and the recent Prey is one of those titles.

Prey takes a different approach than previous ones Predator movies in terms of setting, choosing to delve into the past rather than the future this time around. A successful bet because the critics were full of praise for its style and originality. Although the viewership score was lower, currently standing at 73%, many fans of the original film agreed with critics that this was a promising new direction for the series. Both sides commented on the acting, atmosphere, and set-up for the intense, action-packed sequences.

2/10 X-94%

Since her debut in 2013, Mia Goth has had a promising career so far. One of the best movies Mia has starred in which many fans and critics enjoyed is X.

X has an impressive 75% audience score but that’s nothing compared to Tomatometer’s 94% score. Many critics appreciated the film’s throwback to old ’70s grindhouse films, but Goth’s dual performance as Maxine and Pearl caught the eye of those who watched it, with her performance receiving almost universal acclaim.

1/10 sissy – 97%

Comedy horror offers something different for fans of the genre. One of the movies that falls under this horror subgenre that has made a lasting impression is sissy.

sissy is another film about a social media influencer who has a large following and ends up reuniting with her former best friend. However, all is not sunny and rainbow, and things take a turn for the worse. Critics adored the film for the way it tells the story of morality and the dangers of bullying while sprinkling in comic relief. While the viewership score is 73%, the film has still received a lot of love and attention and is well worth a watch for those into dark comedy.
